- Buy a puppy from a reputable and known breeder.

- Ask to see the puppy´s papers and pedigree.

- When viewing the parents, do not stare the dog directly in the eyes, for it is a provocation.

- ask the breeder to see the parents and puppies loose for a moment.

        you can eventually then start to interact with the puppies.

- Temperament is an important aspect in the selection and purchase of a dog.

  a choleric or temperamental dog is not a good Boerboel.

- color alone should not be your defining decision maker, but what is important is the pigmentation of the    
  nose, nails, ears, eyes, lips and inside of the mouth (which should be as black as possible).

- A good breeder should be capable to say how the character of a puppy should develop (but each puppy is 
  different). 

      if he is outgoing or very sure of himself, this would be the puppy that greets you,  plays with your
      shoelaces or your trousers.

      a puppy that is too friendly is not advisable for those that have plans to utilize the dog as a guard dog.
